IPA to host Candour & Communities Exhibition in Notting Hill
The Independent Public Advocate, in collaboration with the Centre for People's Justice, is proud to be hosting Candour & Communities, a free public exhibition at The Tabernacle in Notting Hill from 6 to 11 October 2026.
Created by the Centre for People’s Justice in partnership with affected communities, this travelling exhibition explores a century of public scandals and disasters, examining the impact of institutional failures, cover-ups and the long pursuit of truth and justice by victims, survivors, bereaved families and communities.
The exhibition features a range of significant tragedies and scandals, including Aberfan, Chinook, Primodos and Infected Blood, highlighting the lessons they continue to hold for public bodies and society today.
Bringing the exhibition to North Kensington provides a particularly important opportunity to reflect on the legacy of the Grenfell Tower tragedy and the continuing importance of truth, accountability and justice for those affected.
The exhibition also comes at a significant moment in the national conversation about public accountability, as Parliament considers the proposed Duty of Candour through the Public Office (Accountability) Bill, often referred to as the Hillsborough Bill. Visitors are invited to consider what greater openness, honesty and accountability from public authorities could mean for future generations.
Through powerful stories and community perspectives, Candour & Communities encourages reflection on how we can build a more candid and accountable public culture, so that no community is left spending decades seeking the truth after a major tragedy.
